The most talked about dietary fats are the omega 3 fatty acids which are found in: Fish oil Krill oil Seafoods Cod liver oil Flax seeds Grass-fed animal meats Low levels of omega-3'a are associated with depression, self-harm and impulsivity. EPA & DHA are types of omega-3's. EPA is the primary anti-inflammatory fatty acid for your brain, it is influential on mood and behaviour. Cholesterol is another important dietary fat. It is used by the body, along with Vitamin D, to create sex hormones. Low levels of cholesterol have been associated with depression and violent behaviour. Animal products - fats and organ meats - are high in cholesterol. The omega-6 fatty acid arachidonic acid (AA) helps the body to create its 'feel-good' hormones. AA is found in animal fats, butter and eggs. Chosing healthy wholefoods like butter, ghee, grass-fed animal meats, wild-caught fish, walnuts, olives, flax seed oil, avocados, organ meats, etc will help reduce inflammation caused by the consumption of vegetable oils, transfats and shortenings, as well as refined carbohydrates like flour and sugar.
