Okonomiyaki - Savoury Japanese Pancakes



I am a bit obsessed with this recipe. I have made it for both breakfast and dinner, in various ways, and I really love it!


Here’s the basic recipe:


  • couple generous handfuls of shredded cabbage

  • 2-3 sliced Spring onions

  • 8 - 10 eggs

  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

  • 1 generous tablespoon coconut aminos (or tamari)

  • 3 tablespoons coconut flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (bi-carb/baking soda would work, too)

  • some cubes of bacon or ham, if desired

  • some black and/or white sesame seeds

  • coconut oil for frying


Mix all ingredents in a bowl until well-incorporated. Heat oil in a skillet and add large spoonfuls once hot; cook on both sides then remove to cool a bit before serving.


Serve with kimchi, toasted seaweed, mayo, teriyaki, extra Spring onions…..YUM!


I make extra so I can have them again the next day.
